Researchers from Cornell and Donana Biological Station found that birds on four continents use a similar whining call when they spot parasitic birds near their nests โ€” the study in Nature Ecology and Evolution shows that the call blends an innate reaction with a learned warning that may explain steps in language evolution.

The Maryland based tech company TeraWulf secured an 80 year lease to build an AI data center on the site of the old Cayuga power station along Cayuga Lake in Lansing as the town board postponed the moratorium vote until October 15th due to community concerns about the environment and rising utility costs. TeraWulf said it will break ground within the next year and have part of the center running in 2026โ€”residents and local officials remain divided on the plan.

Tompkins County announced a new Amplify grant that offers up to $5,500 for grassroots projects, nonprofits, or small businesses to drive local change using funds from the 2025 budget. The grant application opened Sept. 16 and ends Oct. 15, and recipients will be announced at the GARE Local Meeting in Ithaca from Oct. 20โ€”22.
