November Book: The Night Watchman

About this event

Hello everyone - we are looking forward to the next bookclub meeting!

This month, we will be reading The Night Watchman by Louise Erdrich. Yes, this is a fictional book for a non-fiction bookclub... but it came up in discussion at the last meeting and we were all excited to read it, so come join us for something a little different! To keep the non-fiction theme, there is an optional bonus non-fiction reading linked below. The book itself parallels the life of the author's grandfather, while the non-fiction reading is a longer form journal article that discusses a few personal stories and the broader historical context. Both discuss the 1950s and 60s Termination Era and Native American relocation programs.

November 2026 Meeting Date: Nov 17 Time: 6:30 PM Location: Protagonist Books and Coffee Book: The Night Watchman by Louise Erdrich Optional Bonus Reading: Uprooted (Audio file also on website, 50 minutes long)

The book is available at the Tompkins County Public Library and I believe will be available at Protagonist for a book club discount, but I will work on confirming. Bring your own mug for a sustainability discount on a drink at the Protagonist!

----------- Can't join us this month? Want to get a head start on December's book? At the following meeting, we will be reading * Why Fish Don't Exist * by Lulu Miller.
