- ➤ City officials said winter brings less trail upkeep at parks so walkers should be cautious on the Cayuga Waterfront Trail — maintained only in parts at Cass and Stewart parks. Seasonal bathrooms are winterized and park hours have been shortened for public safety. 607 News Now
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A small fire forced an evacuation at Dryden High School on Jan. 7; students sheltered at TC3 were dismissed by 3:30 p.m. and elementary bus routes were delayed while after-school events were canceled and students later accessed the building for belongings. 607 News Now

- ➤ Cornell named Dr. Gary Koretzky ’78 as vice provost for research for Ithaca, Cornell Tech and AgriTech campuses, effective Dec. 15+ he served as interim since February 2025. Cornell Chronicle
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Tanglewood Nature Center in Big Flats has chosen Edger Enterprises to build its 900-foot-long treetop walkway, which will be suspended 70 feet above the ground to show views of the tree canopy and Chemung River cliffs; construction will start early this year and finish by the end of 2026. WENY
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The CDC revised recommendations for rotavirus, influenza, meningococcal, and hepatitis A vaccines on Jan. 6, but New York officials said on Wednesday that the state will keep its current policies and school rules — parents and providers will use shared decision-making for flu shots.
