- ➤ The Danby Volunteer Fire Company will host a pancake breakfast on Sunday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Danby Fire Station, offering pancakes, French toast, sausage, scrambled eggs, and home fries for $12 per plate. 607 News Now
- ➤ Registration is open for the fourth annual Daffodil Dash on Saturday, April 25 at Cass Park, where the Ithaca Garden Club and the Ithaca Children’s Garden invite community members to run, walk or stroll among 180,000 blooming daffodils that will fund new plantings at Stewart Park + fees are $25 for most while kids 12 and under register free, with registration closing on April 10 or once capacity is reached. - ➤ John Doris received the 2025 Joseph B. Gittler Award from the American Philosophical Association for his book (Character Trouble) that looks at moral psychology and ethics. The award honors his work connecting social science research and moral philosophy. Cornell Chronicle
- ➤ Margaret Smith was elected professor emerita at Cornell on January 16 after nearly 50 years of service. She began as an undergraduate and later worked as a corn breeder in Latin America while leading key agriculture and nutrition programs. Cornell Chronicle
- ➤ Nour Gajial '26 and Yanni Kouloumbis '26 of MathGPT appeared on the Startup Cornell podcast on Fri, Jan. 16 and explained how their AI-powered platform helps students tackle math problems and expand learning in STEM subjects. Cornell Chronicle
- ➤ Cornell has received a $1.5 million grant from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation to fund 10 two-year postdoctoral research roles across four colleges, supporting fields such as astronomy, biology, chemistry and engineering. - ➤ Federal, state and local offices will be closed on Monday, Jan. 19 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, so banks, Post Offices and libraries will not operate while grocery stores and select retailers remain open for shoppers. Ithaca Journal
- ➤ CMC nurses at Cayuga Medical Center won union representation with an 82% vote after two days of voting and now expect Centralus Health to recognize the union; Tompkins County Legislator Iris Packman said the decision advances efforts to improve working conditions in the hospital. 607 News Now
