  • Ithaca honored Dr. King by dual-designating State Street with his name—a 2008 compromise that balanced business costs with community passion—and the change was officially recognized on MLK Day 2009 downtown.  14850

  • Consumers must stop using Curtis International Frigidaire mini fridges sold at Target from Jan 2020 to Oct 2023, as the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission expanded a recall by 330,000 new units due to fire hazards from short-circuiting components (after 634,000 units were recalled in July 2024).  607 News Now

  • Faculty and graduate students will attend a free panel, workshop, and tour on Jan. 28 at the Johnson Museum of Art's Robinson Lecture Hall to learn how instructors integrate climate change in the humanities (including a look at the newly opened Alexis Rockman exhibit Naples: Course of Empire).  Cornell Chronicle

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Ithaca Town Planning Board approved a subdivision on Dec. 16 that clears the way for a 137-acre nature preserve on South Hill set for passive recreation. The preserve will link with Compton Park (via access from East King, Ridgecrest, and Chase Lane) as part of a long-term plan to curb suburban sprawl.  Ithaca.com
