  • Asempe Kitchen will close its downtown operations with a final Afrobeats brunch (11am-3pm) on Sunday, Feb. 1 in downtown Ithaca. The restaurant will continue its cooking classes, Airbnb Experience, and pop-ups after closing its brick and mortar location.  14850

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Momodou Taal, a suspended Cornell Ph.D. student, was reportedly detained by British police at Heathrow for six hours on Friday. He said authorities confiscated his phone and laptop while questioning him about his background (he has not been charged).  The Cornell Daily Sun
  • Ithaca College’s spring orientation ran Jan. 15 to Jan. 17 and engaged 27 new students in small-group Q&A sessions led by sophomore Xavier Newby — the event gave transfers and first-year students a personal introduction to campus resources and support.  The Ithacan

SPORTS NEWS

  • No. 12 women’s hockey was shut out 0-4 by No. 6 Quinnipiac as Cornell’s offense did not score while Felicia Frank posted her eighth shutout by saving 39 shots. Cornell will regroup ahead of its Ivy League series with Dartmouth and Harvard, with games streamed live on ESPN+.  The Cornell Daily Sun
  • Cornell’s No. 12 Men’s Hockey beat Harvard 4-1 at Lynah Rink on Saturday. Junior forward Jonathan Castagna scored a key goal moments before his teammates swarmed him — the win ended an eight-game homestand, and the team will face Yale and Brown next Friday and Saturday.  The Cornell Daily Sun
  • Cornell’s No. 12 men’s hockey team beat Harvard 4-1 on Nov. 7 in Cambridge, Massachusetts in front of 4,267 fans. Freshman goalie Alexis Cournoyer made 17 saves & junior forward Jake Kraft scored key goals to boost playoff hopes.  The Cornell Daily Sun
