- ➤ Rohan Amin held his fourth annual Lurie Cup on Dec. 27 at the Corning YMCA, where nearly 90 players formed 16 teams to raise funds for Lurie Children’s Hospital. The tournament united Cornell students and local neighbors from across New York to support pediatric care. Cornell Chronicle

- ➤ The Garifuna Collective will perform at Bailey Hall on Friday, Feb. 6 at 7:30 p.m. as part of the Dallas Morse Coors Concert Series in Ithaca; the group will also lead a free drumming workshop on Thursday, Feb. 5 at 12:30 p.m. and host a moderated conversation on Friday at 12:30 p.m. in Lincoln Hall B20. - ➤ Cornell chemist Eunice Bae won the inaugural Scialog Award for her project on quantum entanglement of skyrmion-antiskyrmion pairs. She — along with researchers from the University of Washington and UMass Boston — will receive $60,000 each to support a project that combines theory and experiments for reliable magnetic results. - ➤ Ithaca College went remote from noon Jan. 25 to 11 p.m. Jan. 26 because a snow storm canceled in-person classes. Students joined a lively snowball fight at 8 p.m. on Jan. 25 + enjoyed snow sports while some worked on assignments in their dorms. The Ithacan
- ➤ Cornell University has agreed to raise its voluntary contribution to the Ithaca City School District by $50,000 for 2025-26 and by another $50,000 for 2026-27 and 2027-28 with a 3% increase annually thereafter (negotiated during a Jan. 13 board meeting) amid financial challenges. Ithaca.com

- ➤ The Cornell Lab of Ornithology is hosting a Bird-Friendly Student Art Contest for Cornell students to submit window decal designs that reduce bird collisions at Stocking Hall from Jan. 20 through March 30. - ➤ A Cornell study published Jan. 21 in BMC Public Health finds tick prevention surveys rarely ask why residents skip protective measures, focusing on knowledge and past actions. Reviewing over 1,000 questions, the researchers suggest future surveys address barriers—cost and inconvenience—to better guide prevention efforts. Cornell Chronicle
- ➤ Cayuga Medical Center has officially recognized CWA as the nurse union representative after more than 350 nurses voted to form Cayuga United CWA. The hospital will negotiate a contract covering improved health insurance, pension and pay. WENY

- ➤ Ithaca College women’s wrestling is underway with first-year athlete Delaney Bisaillon posting an 18-2 record through Jan. 26 after winning at the Alfred State Pioneer Open on Jan. 11 + she aims to qualify for the NCAA Regional Tournament on Feb. 20 in one of five remaining meets. The Ithacan
- ➤ Ithaca College alum Tim Locastro retired from professional baseball and will join the San Diego Padres organization as a baserunning and outfield coordinator—he spent the past two seasons with their AAA affiliate in El Paso.
