  • Ithaca College OPS employees serve community roles on local boards and coach kids sports, boosting scholarships and housing efforts (supporting low-income students) while organizing an annual summer softball tournament at Kostrinsky Field to raise funds for suicide prevention.  The Ithacan

CULTURE NEWS

  • Sage Chapel (150 years) was built in 1875 and remains a hub for campus worship and music today, serving also as a popular wedding venue for the Cornell community.  The Cornell Daily Sun
  • Cornell Cinema will screen the documentary 'Rule Breakers' on Feb. 11 at 4:30 p.m. at Willard Straight Hall, featuring a panel discussion and Q&A to explore the story of Afghanistan’s first all-girls robotics team.  Cornell Chronicle

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Tompkins Cortland Community College has joined a SUNY partnership to advance AI research and education — a move building on the Empire AI initiative announced in 2024. The program will offer a free online microcredential in AI with local SUNY partners.  607 News Now
  • Ithaca College eight communications students and eight business students are headed to Super Bowl 60 in California to work on radio row by carrying out live audio and video interviews as the game unfolds Sunday night.  607 News Now
  • A Cornell student and two alumni were named Schwarzman Scholars for the 2026-27 academic year — they will study global affairs at Tsinghua University in Beijing.  Cornell Chronicle
  • CTI’s Art of the Lab panel will run from (2:00-3:30 p.m.) Wed. Feb. 11 at Cornell, where faculty Archer, Jung and Schlesier will share innovative methods to design student-focused lab experiences. The free event is open to faculty, graduate students, postdocs and staff.  Cornell Chronicle
  • Yesterday, faculty and community members met at a Cornell public forum to review the Student Code of Conduct.   • On Jan. 20, Tompkins County Legislature passed a resolution urging the DEC to reprocess or reject TeraWulf’s permit request to withdraw over one million gallons daily from Cayuga Lake for its planned data center at the former Milliken Power Plant (local residents express environmental concerns).  The Cornell Daily Sun

  • The YMCA of Ithaca and Tompkins County honored World Cancer Day yesterday by highlighting its free 12‑week LIVESTRONG program for cancer survivors. It will soon launch Laurie’s Legacy, a year‑long support program that offers full‑family membership and class credits (backed by the St. Agatha Foundation).  607 News Now
  • Tompkins County Whole Health and SPCA of Tompkins County will hold a free rabies vaccination clinic for dogs, cats, and ferrets on Wednesday, Feb. 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Caroline Highway Barn at 852 Valley Road in Brooktondale (pre-registration is required).  14850
