  • Marty Scheinman ’75, MS ’76 and Professor Harry Katz purchased and gifted the Labor Arbitration Institute to the ILR School to boost the Scheinman Institute’s role in training labor arbitrators after LAI provided education for over 25 years.  Cornell Chronicle

  • 11 Cornell researchers have been named Eric and Wendy Schmidt AI in Science Postdoctoral Fellows to explore advances in topics from peptide engineering to quantum physics. The cohort joins a $148 million initiative designed to boost AI-driven research across science, technology, and engineering—an effort with 46 Cornell awards so far.  Cornell Chronicle
  • Oreoluwa Odetunde, a first-year MBA student at S.C. Johnson College of Business, died on Thursday at her off-campus residence. Cornell held a support meeting for students Friday, Feb. 6, and will host another meeting Monday, Feb. 9, to help the community cope.  The Cornell Daily Sun
  • Katrina Greene ’27 from Cornell, active in advocacy groups, will travel to Washington, D.C. this spring as a John Robert Lewis Scholar, awarded by the Faith and Politics Institute.   • Forecasters issued an Extreme Cold Warning as a bitter Arctic blast brings windy conditions (gusts up to 45 mph) and wind chills near -30°F starting today; a Code Blue warming center at 227 Cherry Street is open 24/7 to help residents stay safe.  Tompkins County

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • New York has expanded its child tax credit so eligible families can receive cash back when they file a state tax return. The credit gives up to $1,000 per child under age 4 and up to $330 per child aged 4-16 for this season and will increase next year.  Ithaca Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Cornell researchers found that SHKBP1 binds to p62, keeping cells’ recycling system in balance, a study published Feb. 6 in Ithaca showed that this interaction may guide future treatments for diseases & open new research avenues.  Cornell Chronicle

SPORTS NEWS

  • Cornell men's hockey rallied to a 5-2 win over Colgate in the first game of their home-and-home series, overcoming an early deficit with strong plays from Charlie Major and freshman goaltender Alexis Cournoyer.   • Cornell coach Casey Jones reached 250 wins with a 4-2 win at Brown last Saturday, and his team now faces Colgate in a home game at Class of 1965 Arena today after a Friday road test in Hamilton.  The Cornell Daily Sun
  • The No. 12 Cornell women's hockey team secured a 3 to 0 shutout over RPI Friday night (at Lynah Rink) with goaltender Bergmann making key saves in a strong game. The team celebrated its six seniors on ice and will face Union Saturday at 3 p.m.  The Cornell Daily Sun
