- ➤ On Feb. 11, the Dryden Center for Community completed the purchase of the United Methodist Church building in the Village of Dryden. The center will host public events, community meals, music lessons, and multigenerational activities as officials say it fills a long-held community need. 607 News Now

- ➤ TCPL and Cornell University are hosting the 10th Douglass Day Transcribe-a-thon to honor Frederick Douglass by digitizing Colored Conventions documents. TCPL’s session is today from noon to 3 p.m. at 101 E. Green St plus Cornell will host a session on Thursday, Feb. 19 at Olin Library Room 107. WENY
- ➤ On Wednesday, Feb. 18, a historical marker honoring Nobel Prize-winning Toni Morrison will be unveiled at 3:30 p.m. at 513 N. Albany St. A community celebration at GIAC from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. will follow on what would have been her 95th birthday. 14850

- ➤ Cornell University has increased its voluntary contribution nearly $900,000 to Ithaca City School District over the next five years with plans to offer dual-credit courses at Ithaca High School this fall; Ithaca High School junior Cornelia Ye is urging reopening full on-campus dual enrollment to boost local academic opportunities. - ➤ Ithaca-based astronomer Anna Ho has been named a Cottrell Scholar by the Research Corporation for Science Advancement and will receive $120,000 for her proposal on fast star explosions. Cornell Chronicle
- ➤ Cornell faculty earned top awards this season — psychology professors Pennycook and Rand won the Newcomb Prize for an AI study, artists Mendi and Keith Obadike were named United States Artists Fellows, astronomy professor Anna Ho received the Newton Pierce Prize, and chemistry professor Song Lin earned the Snapdragon Prize. - ➤ University leaders at Cornell outlined changes to address ongoing financial challenges in a Wednesday update. They announced the formation of four cross-functional work groups (finance, marketing, human resources and IT) that will test new efficiency models with plans to implement changes in early summer. - ➤ Cornell Atkinson and (The Nature Conservancy) have funded five research projects to restore oyster habitats, protect bee populations, manage flood risk, improve stormwater monitoring, and test cattlevoltaics. - ➤ A snowfall tracking map now shows seasonal totals and record last snowfall dates across New York. For Ithaca, official data pinpointed March 20 as the earliest last snowfall and May 25 as the latest, with an average date of April 12 (from the National Weather Service). Ithaca Journal

- ➤ Village of Dryden officials reported Thursday morning that they are investigating unexpected water loss from either a water main break or broken residential pipes. They urged residents to inspect their basements and yards for leaks. 14850
