- ➤ Graduate students (83 total) traveled abroad for research last summer using Einaudi travel grants; applications for summer 2026 fieldwork are open until March 6, with projects including climate studies in Kenya and food security in Costa Rica. Cornell Chronicle

- ➤ Cornell researchers have built a blockchain platform called CATchain-R that records climate actions and carbon credits for the transportation sector. The system aims to stop double counting & build trust, with a test using New York City's transit data to show clear benefits. Cornell Chronicle
- ➤ Cornell researchers studied a twenty year experiment in Dryden and found that white-tailed deer limit tree growth while boosting small plant diversity; fenced plots show trees, whereas open plots have almost none (findings published on Dec. 23 in PLOS One). Cornell Chronicle
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ TCAT's two new diesel hybrid buses are undergoing final checks in California and will soon embark on a nearly 3,000-mile journey to Ithaca — trained drivers will monitor the buses as they switch from diesel to electric mode in sensitive areas. They will replace older buses to improve local transit service. The Ithaca Voice
- ➤ Tompkins County Youth Services Department released a survey today to gather community input on youth well-being, assess service gaps, and guide future planning and partnerships (responses remain anonymous) for better support. 607 News Now

- ➤ On Tuesday, Feb. 17, Cornell won a close 11 to 10 season opener against Albany with a last minute goal by Firth, overcoming 22 turnovers + poor weather. The team will fly cross country to face Denver at 2 p.m. Saturday. The Cornell Daily Sun
- ➤ Newfield girls basketball ended a six year postseason drought after the Trojans met the .400 winning percentage to qualify for playoffs, head coach Brandon Steinorth said. Their first round opponent in sectionals will be announced on February 19. Tompkins Weekly
