  • WOCA, founded by Cornell students in 2020, continues to offer resume workshops, mentorship and networking events that help women of color and other students gain career guidance and community support on campus today.  The Cornell Daily Sun

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Qahwah House, a Yemeni coffee shop, will open on Tuesday at 139 Dryden Rd in Collegetown. The shop will serve Arabic coffee, pastries and traditional Yemeni desserts and plans to offer catering and host local events.  The Cornell Daily Sun

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Cornell’s Future of Learning Lab (led by Prof. Rene Kizilcec) studies how technology supports teaching by using AI tools to encourage productive struggle and provide tailored feedback; the lab works on projects like HiTA.ai and a national tutoring database to enhance student learning.  The Cornell Daily Sun

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Feb. 19, Senator Lea Webb recognized local leaders in honor of Black History Month by presenting State Senate Commendation Awards. Gladys Brangman (CEO of Business Leaders of Color in Ithaca), Baruch Whitehead, and Bernice Cooper were honored along with two Binghamton area leaders for their community impact.  607 News Now

  • The FDA has recalled Tippy Toes Apple Pear Banana baby food because it may contain high levels of patulin that can harm health, and parents should stop using it and return it for a refund.  607 News Now

  • 14850 Dining visits the new Modern Ohana restaurant (205 Elmira Road in Ithaca’s southwest) which reopens Tuesday with a refreshed Pacific tropical islands and Asian fusion menu offering 7:30 a.m. breakfast specials, Taco Thursdays at five bucks each, and upcoming Friday tiki fish fry and Sunday steak night specials.  14850

  • Six student-athletes from Section 4 schools have been nominated for Guthrie Athlete of the Week for Feb. 15 to 21 — voters can cast their picks until noon Thursday, Feb. 26; email nominations for Feb. 22 to 28 are due by 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28.  Ithaca Journal
  • Cornell athletes earned three Olympic medals, bringing the school total to 73, with women hockey standout Rory Guilday becoming the first non-Canadian Cornell alum to win Olympic ice hockey gold.   • Cornell came back from behind with a 13-9 win against Denver today as six straight faceoff wins led by senior Jack Cascadden sealed the comeback; the team will face Hobart at 5 p.m. on Tuesday at Schoellkopf Field.  The Cornell Daily Sun
