- ➤ Sunny Days of Ithaca, a downtown souvenir shop that once employed ten workers, laid off its staff amid rising debt and fewer customers; owner Deirdre Kurzweil now runs the shop with her husband (the only full-time operators) and warned that the business may close by year-end. Ithaca.com
- ➤ Ithaca’s longtime neighborhood pharmacy at 513 North Cayuga Street in Fall Creek will close at 6 p.m. on March 5 and patients will have their prescriptions automatically transferred to the Kinney Drugs store on North Triphammer Road (the company said it will explore future location options). - ➤ This week in Ithaca, Cornell Cinema, Cinemapolis, and Regal offer varied film screenings including global documentaries, classic restorations, and experimental Oscar contenders. - ➤ Professor Héctor Abruña of A&S will receive the Gustavus John Esseln Award for Chemistry in the Public Interest for advancing battery and fuel cell performance and will present lecture, The Energy Landscape in the Age of Sustainability, on April 17 at 8 p.m. at the Harvard Faculty Club. - ➤ Cornell researchers discovered that CymA proteins in Shewanella oneidensis can be induced to form a condensate in the inner membrane when an electrical signal is applied (their study published Feb. 17 advances our understanding of extracellular electron transfer). Cornell Chronicle
- ➤ Cornell Global Hubs researchers worked with UK partners in 2024 to study war, hosting meetings and a symposium that produced a manifesto on how social factors shape conflict; they compared African peacekeepers’ experiences and later recommended support for mental health and financial aid to boost recovery. - ➤ The City of Ithaca repaired a broken water main on Monday, Feb. 23 at East Court Street & North Tioga Street, closing the 400 block and interrupting water service. Neighbors were advised to run cold taps after a system flush to clear brown water. City of Ithaca
- ➤ The Tompkins County Board of Elections invites students to join annual sticker contests for “I Voted” and “Future Voter” designs for the November election. Artwork must be original and submitted by May 25 (designed to celebrate America’s 250th birthday) to be voted on communitywide. Tompkins County

- ➤ Lansing girls basketball won the IAC North Large Division title, ending Whitney Point's eight-year streak.
