CULTURE NEWS

  • Filmmaker Shira Evergreen is raising $8,000 to finish a documentary on Ithaca’s public art scene (from fewer than 15 to over 400 murals) that aims to boost local tourism and support the creative community.  607 News Now
  • Cornell's chimes fill campus with three daily concerts at McGraw Tower, featuring traditional tunes and themed arrangements by Chimesmasters. A 10‑week competition invites students to join the group and share in this cherished Cornell tradition.  The Cornell Daily Sun
  • Student dance groups Amber and Illuminations will perform a Chinese dance showcase on March 13 at 7 p.m. in Bailey Hall, blending traditional folk dance with modern choreography and featuring a children’s dance with local young performers.  Cornell Chronicle

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Cornell held a groundbreaking on March 8 for Harkavy Hall at 722 University Ave on West Campus. The 23,000 sqft building — which will house the Steven K. and Winifred A. Grinspoon Hillel Center to support Jewish community life — is set to open in fall 2027.  Cornell Chronicle
  • College administrators said during the Dollars and Sense meeting that enrollment is strong and the budget plan for FY27 is set to meet a target deficit of no more than $4 million. They are tracking tuition, room & board revenue and private gifts to support the plan.  The Ithacan

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Three Falls State Park—a new 90-acre park with scenic waterfalls and recreation at the former Camp Barton Scout Camp on Cayuga Lake—opened yesterday under the partnership of local governments and New York State Parks. Future plans include cabins, restored trails and a nature center.  Ithaca Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Cornell will host a stem-cell cheek swabbing campaign on campus March 13-20 for young volunteers aged 18-35 (inspired by Juan Uribe ’96’s viral call to help his son) to boost the national registry and improve match rates for life-saving transplants.  Cornell Chronicle
  • Doctors at Arnot Health and Cayuga Health in Ithaca urge residents aged 45 and older to get a colonoscopy for early detection and removal of polyps that can lead to cancer. The quick outpatient exam is available at 1020 Craft Road, Suite C (in Ithaca).  607 News Now

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The Villas at Maple Ridge broke ground in Dryden in February when Tompkins Living Properties LLC began building a 12-unit 55-plus rental community on the east side off Maple Ridge Drive — using modular shells with shared center walls to lower costs — and occupancy is expected before next winter.  The Ithaca Voice

  • For the first time since 2017, Ithaca will host Ivy Madness at Newman Arena from March 13-15, with a key men's semifinal between Cornell and Yale scheduled for 11 a.m. on March 14 as fans will gather to watch NCAA Tournament qualifiers.  Tompkins Weekly
  • On March 7 at Higgins Stadium, the Ithaca College women’s lacrosse team lost 15-14 to the University of Scranton in double overtime. Junior attacker Kelly Augeri led the team with four goals and two assists.  The Ithacan
  • Cornell's men's basketball team extended its win streak with a 111-90 victory over Dartmouth on Saturday as senior Jake Fiegen led with 22 points. They will play Yale in Ithaca at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Mar. 14 to decide who advances to the Ivy League championship game.  607 News Now
  • Ithaca High School’s indoor track team competed at states in Staten Island from March 6-7. Eight athletes set strong school records and now prepare for the outdoor season with practice beginning March 9.  Tompkins Weekly
  • On March 7, Newfield's Maddie White won the 1,500-meter race walk at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island and clinched state and federation titles; she will next race at nationals in Boston on March 12 and in New York City later + she is Newfield's first champion since 2022.  Tompkins Weekly
