  • Newfield CSD launches the Seal of Civic Readiness to honor student service after a senior's toy drive delivered over 500 gifts to local children. Schools will award the seal to students who complete service hours & civic courses to build essential civic skills.  Tompkins Weekly
  • Cornell math professor Steven Strogatz stars in the film Hunting Yellow Pigs that celebrates an innovative math program; the Department of Mathematics will host a screening with filmmaker Ming-I Huang on March 24 at 4 p.m. in Schwarz Auditorium — room 201 in Rockefeller Hall.  Cornell Chronicle
  • Tompkins Cortland Community College will use $186,375 in state funding to add flexible infant and toddler care spots for adult students—expanding available hours into evenings and weekends to fit their busy schedules.  Tompkins Weekly
  • Cornell’s Presidential Task Force on Campus Sexual Assault released final recommendations on Tuesday based on the 2025 survey to improve communication, education, and safety on campus; new programs and courses will begin in Fall and a virtual town hall (with community input) is set for March 25 at 4:30 p.m.  The Cornell Daily Sun
  • Dan Kowal, a Cornell associate professor of statistics, developed a method called ABCs (abundance-based constraints) to improve research on health and education outcomes by reducing bias while keeping overall effects steady. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Tompkins County is proposing a new 21,000 sqft emergency shelter at 227 Cherry Street (the current Code Blue site) to help adults who have trouble with traditional shelters due to substance use or mental health issues.   • The Ithaca Common Council retroactively approved a mural near the South Aurora Street bridge on March 4 after public debate over the inclusion of 'Free Gaza' in the design. HEALTH NEWS

  • A Cornell-led study published on Mar. 16 argues that food safety rules should target acceptable risk levels instead of aiming for zero risk, which can lead to wasted food and higher costs.
