  • A local branding study invites Ithaca residents to complete a quick, confidential survey (with no follow-up calls) to help local businesses measure customer preferences; six participants will win a $50 restaurant gift certificate.   • Film alum Daniel V. Masciari ’15 premieres his debut feature Stationed at Home today at Cinemapolis on The Commons, followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker and cast. The film, set on Christmas Eve in 1998, has screened at festivals including Brooklyn.  The Ithacan
  • Arise and Go premiered their new album Moments of Light with ten continuous tune sets at the First Unitarian Society on Mar. 16. They will return to Ithaca for a show on Jul. 9 — highlighting their fresh take on Celtic music built over a decade.  The Ithaca Voice

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Since 2012, Cornell Lab of Ornithology has run bird cams that stream live views from campus feeders and remote nests so Ithaca residents can watch birds in action and learn about their behavior + deepen their connection to nature.  The Cornell Daily Sun
  • Emily Bernhardt, a leading ecologist and biogeochemist, will join Cornell Atkinson Center for Sustainability as its new director on Sept. 1 + she will succeed David Lodge, who retires in May.  Cornell Chronicle

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • TCIDA issued a notice of default to Vecino Group for Asteri Ithaca on Monday after safety issues forced a vacate order on March 4. The property is closed while residents have moved to hotels until a fire safety test on March 20 may lift the order.  The Cornell Daily Sun
  • New York State Parks announced on March 9 that the former Camp Barton site is now named Three Falls State Park. The 90-acre property on Cayuga Lake will offer public trails and waterfront access as local partners plan improvements pending final funding review.  Ithaca.com
  • Tompkins County is launching a community engagement process for its minimum wage study — its first session is a public convening on Tuesday, Mar. 24 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Tompkins County Whole Health, 55 Brown Road in Ithaca to gather input for future policy proposals.  Tompkins County

  • Local health data show flu cases rising slightly and RSV tripling since February while coughing rates have dropped; wastewater detection spiked in early March and some counties report varied COVID trends around Ithaca. SPORTS NEWS

  • The Ithaca Shooting Stars girls hockey team qualified for the Chipotle-USA Hockey National Championships after finishing second at a New York state tournament in Utica. The 14-under team will compete in Rochester, Michigan from March 25-29.  Ithaca Journal
  • Cornell women’s lacrosse dominated Boston University on Tuesday with a 12-6 win, as junior Ellie Bergin scored four goals. The team will return home to face Columbia Saturday at noon at Schoellkopf Field.  607 News Now
