EDUCATION NEWS

  • At the Dryden campus on March 27, TC3 signed a transfer agreement with RIT’s Saunders College of Business that lets eligible accounting, business, and hotel management students enter Saunders with junior status to finish their bachelor’s degree + it follows deals with Cornell, Hobart and William Smith, and Syracuse.  607 News Now
  • Family Reading Partnership launched a $100,000 fundraising campaign on Feb. 3 at its mall location to support its free reading programs, which have given out over 350,000 books. If it does not meet its goal by May 31, it will move to a smaller space (and cut programming).  Ithaca.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Saturday, Mar. 28, thousands marched through Ithaca’s downtown with the No Kings rally led by Indivisible Tompkins. Protestors expressed their views about current federal policies along a route from Bernie Milton Pavilion to South Cayuga Street and South Meadow Street.  The Ithaca Voice
  • Ithaca’s free legal clinic will offer consumer law advice on March 31 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Tompkins County Public Library; volunteer attorneys from the 6th Judicial District Access to Justice Committee (partnering with LawNY) will assist with debt and credit issues and scams while accepting walk-ins.  607 News Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • Experts say the cold winter did not reduce ticks in wooded and shady spots in Ithaca; people spending time outdoors should check for ticks as temperatures rise. Joellen Lampman with Cornell Integrated Pest Management warns that Lyme disease & Babesiosis remain risks.  607 News Now
  • Clinicians and support staff at Family and Children’s Service of Ithaca launched a union campaign on March 18 to seek voluntary recognition from their board. The move reflects a growing trend in local healthcare unionization — more Tompkins County workers are joining the effort for improved conditions.  Ithaca.com

  • The Ithaca College men's lacrosse team upset No.15 St. Lawrence 14-5 on March 28 at Higgins Stadium, ending a seven-year losing streak in the Liberty League. The team, led by Brendan Occhino’s hat trick, will face Union College on April 4 & three more RV teams.  The Ithacan
