COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Allison and Marvin Pritts donated 15.234 acres to create Ulysses’ first public park in over 231 years. Town officials will hold a community process to decide what the park will include+residents have offered strong support even as plans move slowly without using tax dollars. Tompkins Weekly
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Slope Day Programming Board announced that Kehlani will headline Slope Day 2025 on May 7 while Louis The Child will open the event. They also said that five student DJs competed (with the winner to be announced soon) and student band Lucky Strike (winners on March 22) will also perform. The Cornell Daily Sun
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Cornell professor Qi Wang and Andrew Hoskins co-wrote a book that examines how internet and social media use have changed the way we remember personal and collective events—published by Oxford University Press in November 2024, it features studies from over 30 researchers. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Town officials selected Bero Architects on March 19 to lead a full renovation of Old Town Hall at 2670 Slaterville Rd, a building built in 1868 and listed on the National Register. The project uses a 50/50 cost share—town received a match grant in 2023—and will have plans drawn up this year with construction set to begin in 2026. Tompkins Weekly
- ➤ Tompkins County has issued a request for qualifications to choose experienced providers to design, build and manage an accessible emergency shelter for about 100 adults experiencing homelessness. The shelter will be built at 225-227 Cherry Street in Ithaca and meet OTDA standards. Tompkins County

- ➤ Developers Nick Robertson and Charlie O’Connor plan a midrise redevelopment at 215 College Avenue in Collegetown that will create 91 apartments with 158 bedrooms and a public plaza—features designed to meet growing student housing needs. They are working with BKV Group and city officials to address zoning variances and review planning board feedback—efforts aimed at ensuring the project fits with the neighborhood’s character.
