BUSINESS NEWS

  • Ithaca Coffee Company will close its Triphammer Marketplace location this Sunday and will open a new northside cafe later this month at the Hancock Street roastery building — with a tentative soft opening on April 21st. The new location will offer updated indoor and outdoor seating as the company shifts from its long-time Triphammer presence.  14850

CRIME NEWS

  • Late Friday night, Ithaca Police arrested 42-year-old Ryan L. Elliot on the commons after he fled when officers tried to talk to him and fell over a chain barrier—police found him with a loaded gun, drugs and an open container of alcohol—and he was charged with crimes related to drugs, weapons and alcohol.  Ithaca.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • At Bailey Hall, Cornell Yamatai presented Pulse 2025: Reflections, a two-hour Taiko drumming show with 14 pieces performed by its 26 members and guest Miyako Seki from Japan. The ensemble practiced for weeks and drew over 800 fans with lively rhythms and energy — spins and jumps added to the show — highlighting how the group blends traditional art with modern performance.  The Cornell Daily Sun

EDUCATION NEWS

  • After one year of negotiations with the University, Cornell Graduate Students United ratified its first contract on Friday with 97% approval from its members. Under the contract, graduate workers will receive a 3.9% stipend raise, a 100% TCAT pass subsidy, 12 vacation days, dental and vision insurance, and a one-time $750 matriculation payment while the agreement includes a modified agency shop that lets students donate the union fee if they object.  The Cornell Daily Sun
  • Cornell announced on April 9th on its FAQ page that a small number of international students had their SEVIS records terminated — ending their legal status; today, administrators have not confirmed the exact number and urge affected students to seek legal counsel.  The Cornell Daily Sun
  • On Saturday, TEDx Cornell held its annual conference at Statler Auditorium for about 200 attendees. Speakers from Cornell (Ella Hough ’25, Alexander Htet Kyaw ’23 and Julia Dunetz ’19) discussed Bitcoin’s potential for financial security, creative applications of artificial intelligence and the power of theater to spark personal discovery.  The Cornell Daily Sun

  • Cornell University says Campus Road will be reduced to one lane from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. today for pavement work for a memorial project (adjacent to Schoellkopf Hall). Flaggers will maintain an alternating traffic pattern (parking area access remains open).  14850

  • During a weekend game at Mitchel Field, Cornell men’s lacrosse beat Syracuse 17-12—senior attackman CJ Kirst scored his 50th goal and helped secure the team’s No. 1 ranking—before setting its sights on a matchup with Harvard on Saturday, April 19.  The Cornell Daily Sun
