- ➤ The Cornell Gamelan Ensemble will perform a piece inspired by Thailand’s royal anthem and other gamelan works at Groos Family Atrium of Klarman Hall on April 26 at 7:30 p.m. to welcome new assistant professor Parkorn Wangpaiboonkit—who joined last fall—with director Christopher J. - ➤ Brooks School senior Ariela Asllani, a Cornell public policy major, will graduate this May and use a Keasbey Scholarship to study refugee and forced migration at Oxford University – a recognition that follows her work founding Refugee Scholars in Ithaca to support local refugees. - ➤ Sen. Lea Webb announced $174,500 from the state's CREST Program to improve Ithaca's 4-H Acres campus on Lower Creek Road — upgrades will include the commercial kitchen, parking lot and property renovations to support local youth programs. 607 News Now
- ➤ Ithaca Community Childcare Center (IC3) celebrated 50 years on April 13 after beginning as Kiddie Kollege in a church basement and growing to be the largest childcare center in Tompkins County. The center will soon start a playground redesign project. 607 News Now
- ➤ Underrepresented Minorities in Computing celebrated 10 years on Saturday, Mar. 14 (at Cornell's Computing and Information Science Building and G10 Biotechnology) with networking, dinner, panels and performances. - ➤ Ceridwyn King has been named the new Dimond Family Dean at the Nolan School at Cornell and will assume her role on July 1. She comes from Purdue and plans to strengthen the school by enhancing industry partnerships and academic connections. Cornell Chronicle

- ➤ Cornell researchers discovered that East Lawn Cemetery houses about 5.5 million ground-nesting mining bees—one of the largest groups ever recorded—and the study explains the thriving population is linked to the sandy soil and nearby blooming orchards. Cornell Chronicle

- ➤ Tompkins County Highway Department milled and paved Lansingville Road on Monday, Apr. 13 in the Town of Lansing — crews maintained a lane with flaggers and delays expected from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays. The DPW is milling Buck Road and repairing Lockerby Hill and Salmon Creek Roads. 14850
- ➤ State Senator Lea Webb holds office hours today at the Whole Health building on Brown Road to assist residents with state issues; TCWH hosts an open house from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. to showcase health programs (part of National Public Health Week). 607 News Now

- ➤ Researchers at Weill Cornell Medicine found that disabling cohesin disrupted 3D DNA loops in mouse stem cells — most genes kept functioning while a few key developmental genes failed to turn on, pointing to potential insights into disorders and cancers. - ➤ On March 24, two Ithaca area hotels, Country Inn and Suites and Econo Lodge, were sold for $4,125,000 to Ithaca Lodging Associates LLC — a firm headed by regional hotelier Visions Hotel. - ➤ Groton’s baseball team hired Justin Albro as its new head coach two weeks ahead of the season opener after Jake Reitmeier stepped away for reasons.
