  • Cornell students use Sidechat to build a digital community by sharing campus news, study tips and notices like class cancellations during snowstorms. The anonymous forum connects students in real time for advice and support + community updates.  The Cornell Daily Sun
  • ALANA’s Culture Fest took place on April 10 at Willard Straight Hall Memorial Room, where Cornell students explored over 10 cultural organizations and enjoyed foods, games, and dance performances. The event showcased the campus’s vibrant diversity and cultural exchange.  The Cornell Daily Sun

ECONOMY NEWS

  • New York State Electric & Gas began a $4.7 million upgrade to the Cayuga Heights Substation on Triphammer Road to boost power reliability for 5,000 Ithaca customers; work started in March and will finish in 2027 + the project is part of a $46 million plan to improve the grid.  Ithaca Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Creative Teaching Awards honored Cornell faculty for taking students on local, hands-on learning trips, including visits to aquaponics facilities and berry farms, at the CTI Provost's Teaching Innovation Showcase held April 8. Winners include Misha Ailsworth, Kathryn Fiorella, Peggy Leung, Andrea Card, Anthony Ong, and Marvin Pritts.  Cornell Chronicle
  • The Wayfair co-founders Niraj Shah and Steve Conine will speak at Cornell's Durland Lecture on Tuesday, April 21 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Statler Auditorium (entry is free) as they share lessons from their engineering class that launched a billion-dollar venture.  Cornell Chronicle
  • Groton’s Ag Night at Stonehedges Golf Course drew 120 community members and raised thousands for FFA student leadership training and events — the funds will support future programs including attendance at the New York State FFA Convention in May and the Washington Leadership Conference in July.  Tompkins Weekly
  • A new exhibit displays 800 glass lantern slides — catalogued by the Cornell Astronomical Society — in the downstairs area of Fuertes Observatory at 209 Cradit Farm Drive. The slides, stored in plastic tubs and digitized years ago, are now available for visitors.  Cornell Chronicle
  • Ithaca College Student Governance Council met April 13 to review sustainability updates including a 48% greenhouse gas reduction and a STARS Gold rating, and approved a bill to form an accessible Residential Learning Committee (planned for Fall 2027).   • New York DEC renewed and modified water permits for Cayuga Operating Company’s unused power plant in Lansing on Monday; the permits lower water withdrawal from 245 million to 1 million gallons daily and cover only current operations, not a proposed data center by TeraWulf (a Maryland-based firm).  The Ithaca Voice

  • Ithaca's Fall Creek neighborhood will soon host a new chiropractic and massage therapy practice run by Dr. Spencer Freeman and Rosie Freeman if the Ithaca Board of Zoning Appeals approves a variance. The board meets at City Hall today at 5:30 p.m.  607 News Now

  • Cornell men’s lacrosse beat High Point 17-9 on Tuesday — junior Willem Firth scored five goals and three assists as the team built a three-game win streak; they will face Dartmouth on Saturday in New Hampshire.  607 News Now
  • Ithaca College women’s basketball head coach Dan Raymond announced on March 25 that he will retire at the end of the 2025–26 academic year. He led the team since 2000, winning 17 NCAA Championship appearances and multiple titles — he plans more family time and alumni visits.  The Ithacan
