- ➤ This Tuesday, April 22, the Earth Day Repair Fair will let residents fix, donate or recycle defunct tech in Cornell’s Gates Hall lobby from 4 to 7 p.m. Local repair pros and members of the Cornell and Ithaca reuse community will offer hands-on help and accept any device with a cord — even cords. - ➤ A $5 million gift from the Abraham J. & Phyllis Katz Foundation will secure the future of the Cornell Center for Historical Keyboards—its museum-quality instruments will be maintained for concerts, festivals and classes. The donation also funds hiring an artist-in-residence—who will lead monthly performances and community outreach in Ithaca. Cornell Chronicle

- ➤ The annual Spring Book Sale to benefit the Tompkins County Public Library will start on May 3 at 509 Esty St. in Ithaca and run intermittently for three weeks—shoppers can visit on special sale days with varying hours and purchase limits for items like used books, DVDs, and more. - ➤ Ithaca College will lay off three sign language professors from its deaf studies program after the upcoming fall semester + the program will be paused while over 50 students are enrolled in the courses. 607 News Now
- ➤ Ithaca College has worked with Huron Consulting Group since October to find ways to raise revenue and cut costs because the budget deficit is expected to grow from $4.1 million to $12 million by fiscal year end; Tim Downs said the college will boost enrollment, net tuition revenue, retention and philanthropic gifts to cover more than half the gap. - ➤ The City of Ithaca began a parking lot improvement project at the Youth Bureau on April 16 and expects to finish around July 1. Construction will cause intermittent traffic delays and lane shifts on James L. Gibbs Drive near Stewart Park—drivers, bikers, and bus commuters should watch for temporary signs. 14850
- ➤ Today, the Tompkins County Legislature approved over $175K in tourism grants to support free events and marketing projects that boost local cultural and outdoor activities—19 organizations received $23,950 for community events while 13 groups got $98,980 for visitor promotions funded by the Hotel Room Occupancy Tax Law. The approved funds will help make the county a more attractive destination for visitors. Ithaca Journal
