- ➤ On Saturday, April 26, National Prescription Take Back Day will let residents safely dispose of unwanted drugs at the Tompkins County Public Safety Building—779 Warren Road from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; similar drop-off sites are set up at the Tioga County Health and Human Services Building, Auburn Wegmans, Fingerlakes Mall, and Broome County Sheriff’s Office. 14850

- ➤ On April 15, Cornell held a graduation at Weill Hall for its incubator Class of 2025, which includes startups Llume, Meiogenix and TETmedical. The companies advanced innovations in human performance monitoring, non-GMO plant breeding and neurological critical care, raised $34 million and created 33 high-tech jobs—16 in New York. - ➤ On April 21 at Willard Straight Hall, Cornell’s Muslim chaplain Numan Dugmeoglu and the Diwan Center for Muslim Life received the 29th annual Perkins Prize for Interracial and Intercultural Peace and Harmony for advancing campus unity—Dugmeoglu has improved prayer spaces and halal dining and the event also recognized CUDAA and CUEMS with honorary mentions. - ➤ A virtual Earth Day Every Day event was hosted over 48 hours and drew nearly 275 participants from the U.S.—Canada, South Korea, and India as speakers shared ideas on sustainability, mobility, and local transit challenges. - ➤ City officials in Ithaca are considering two flood map options for updating flood risk—FEMA’s model would put over 1,200 buildings in a flood zone while the USGS model could lower costs for homeowners. - ➤ At Tuesday’s meeting, the Ithaca Planning Board approved an eight-story mixed-use project for Collegetown’s 201 Oak Avenue site with a minor design update while also reviewing revised proposals for the waterfront Water’s Edge project, a 7-story residential plan at 215 College Avenue and a 5-story senior housing project—each moving forward with further reviews. - ➤ TCAT union members voted Tuesday to ratify a three-year contract that ensures a 10-hour minimum rest period and pay increases—wages will start at $26.94 for bus operators and $28.25 for mechanics with all raises retroactive to the start of 2025. The deal, reached last month with UAW Local 2300, is expected to help TCAT improve recruitment and retention as it works toward returning to pre-COVID service levels. 607 News Now

- ➤ Cornell researchers developed a computer model that lets food producers simulate COVID-19 outbreaks by inputting details such as worker age, infection history and working conditions—this tool compares strategies like testing, vaccination and physical distancing.
