- ➤ Ithaca College athletic director Susan Bassett ’79 announced on Feb. 6 that she will retire at the end of the academic year after a 45-year career in intercollegiate athletics, which included coaching at William Smith College and Carnegie Mellon University + she said she stayed during the pandemic and Butterfield stadium renovations to help keep the department stable and prepare for new leadership. - ➤ Ithaca College hosted Sustainability Week from April 16th to 26th with events including a sustainability fair, a student-led colloquium and a keynote by Terry Carroll, Tompkins County chief sustainability officer. - ➤ Local activist Irene Weiser has announced her run for the Tompkins County Legislature in District 13, which covers Caroline and Danby. - ➤ Today, the Tompkins County Highway Department will begin chip sealing on Dubois, Krums Corners, Willow Creek and Kraft Roads in Ulysses at 7:00 a.m.—one lane will remain open for traffic—and drivers are advised to use alternate routes. - ➤ Health care workers at Corning Hospital are in contract negotiations with Guthrie as their three-year contract for 450 workers will expire on April 30 and they are calling for more staff, better wages and affordable health insurance.
