COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Tompkins County farmers markets are expanding their hours after late April rain. The Ithaca Farmers Market now runs Saturday at Steamboat Landing and adds Sunday at the market pavilion and Wednesday at East Hill from this week, while Trumansburg and Freeville markets return outdoors with seasonal events.  14850
  • Large crowds lined up early Saturday for the Friends of the Tompkins County Public Library Spring Book Sale at the Esty Street warehouse, where over 230,000 donated items are on sale. The event runs three weekends (10:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M.) and benefits local literacy programs.  WENY

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Friday, Cornell University President Michael Kotlikoff backed his car into a student after an Israel-Palestine debate event on campus, prompting campus police and EMS to respond and the student to report a sore, possibly fractured foot (a hairline fracture is suspected).  WSKG

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Ithaca Voice’s weekly podcast Backstory returns Tuesday, May 5, with shorter (15- to 20-minute) episodes that focus on one main story and offer a news roundup. The relaunch follows strong listener feedback and promises fresh audio reporting on local issues.  The Ithaca Voice

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Cornell researcher Yicong Fu is studying how natural movements seen in fish and hands can solve engineering problems. His work, which recently showed faster clapping makes sound fade quicker, will soon help design underwater robots for cleaning and medicine (all part of his ongoing research).  The Cornell Daily Sun

  • Cornell men's lacrosse beat Harvard 17-8 on Saturday in the Ivy League Tournament and will face Princeton at 1 p.m. today at Schoellkopf Field (Cornell 11-3, 5-1 Ivy).  The Cornell Daily Sun
