  • Traffic on campus will be affected for Cornell Slope Day on Wednesday, May 6, with the Willard Straight Hall lot closed from May 3 at 10 p.m. until May 7 at 7:30 a.m., and West Avenue and Campus Road restricted on Slope Day from 10:15 a.m. to 5 p.m.  607 News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • Cornell's Multicultural Greek and Fraternal Council hosted Greek Freak at the State Theatre with 355 attendees watching action movie-themed dances Friday night. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority won first place with a Matrix-inspired routine + raffle prizes were drawn.  The Cornell Daily Sun
  • The Comedy of Errors, directed by Dean Robinson, is captivating local audiences at the School of Music, Theatre and Dance with a 90 minute cartoonish version that highlights playful physical comedy and vibrant set design (recreating a coastal Italian town) to reimagine Shakespeare’s classic.  The Ithacan
  • Ithaca Ale House, owned by John O’Leary, is marking its 20th anniversary this week with a throwback menu, live music on Friday and Saturday, and a two-for-one happy hour Tuesday.   • PCIM hosted the 18th Izzy Awards at Ithaca College on April 22, honoring outstanding investigative reporting by winners such as the Texas Observer, The City, and Empire Files. Long-time PCIM director Jeff Cohen was inducted into the Izzy Hall of Fame after 17 years of service on the judges panel.  Ithaca.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Cornell Mechanical Engineering uses two axolotl mascots to energize its advising office with fun events and weekly fun fact boards (students even enjoy seeing inflatable costumes during graduation). This tradition has strengthened community bonds on campus.  The Cornell Daily Sun
  • Researchers from Cornell's Jeb E. Brooks School of Public Policy published an interactive map in January that shows how local communities engage with immigration policy across the state. Policymakers and community members have used the tool to layer data for a clearer view of local responses.  The Cornell Daily Sun
  • Malak Abuhashim discussed her Palestinian activism at a Cornell panel hosted by Students for Justice in Palestine and The Progressives at Cornell this past Wednesday evening — addressing challenges like doxxing. The event drew an audience of about 25.  The Cornell Daily Sun

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Local hunters claim Cornell's deer management on its 5,490-acre land, including extended hunting seasons and alleged baiting tactics, sharply depletes deer populations (with concerns raised by longtime area hunters), though Cornell asserts its program complies with state regulations.  The Cornell Daily Sun

HEALTH NEWS

  • Thermos is recalling food and beverage bottles due to a faulty stopper that may eject unexpectedly when perishable items are stored. Affected models include Stainless King Food Jars and Sportsman Bottles, and consumers are urged to stop using them and contact Thermos for replacements as 8.2 million units were sold.  607 News Now

  • Presented by Guthrie, high school athletes from Binghamton, Elmira, Ithaca, and Corning areas are nominated for Athlete of the Week for events from April 25 to May 1 (including pitching, track and field, and more). Voting will be open until noon on Thursday, May 7.  Ithaca Journal
  • Princeton defeated Cornell 19-9 in the Ivy League Men’s Lacrosse Tournament championship at Schoellkopf on Monday, May 4. Cornell coach Buczek said the loss calls for better defense — improvements needed ahead of the NCAA selection show on ESPNU.  The Cornell Daily Sun
