  • The Twin Tiers Baby Bank is launching its third annual diaper drive to collect donations for families who struggle to afford essential supplies + the drive will support infants and toddlers across the region.  WENY

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Cornell Daily Sun’s Editorial Board has updated a list of 161 Cornell traditions after 20 years. The new list shows fun campus experiences (like sledding down Libe Slope) for students to try as they enjoy campus life.  The Cornell Daily Sun
  • Cornell students can explore a new map of over 4,500 Big Red Missed Connections posts that shows Morrison Dining and Olin Library as hot spots for secret admirers (the searchable tool covers 116 campus locations and gathers data from anonymous Instagram posts).  The Cornell Daily Sun

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Cornell researchers and Google tested AI tools to help students read scientific papers. The study found that while some models pull text quickly, they sometimes gather opinion pieces (instead of careful sources) and need improvement at reading graphs.  The Cornell Daily Sun

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Seneca Street Garage is permanently closed for safety reasons after inspectors found severe concrete damage from water freeze and thaw cycles. City officials will work with partner agencies & local developers to plan site redevelopment and restore the nearby TCAT bus stop, which several businesses say is affecting foot traffic.  Ithaca.com

  • Online voting is open until noon on Thursday, May 14 for the Guthrie Athlete of the Week award covering standout performances from May 2-8, with 10 candidates from local sports teams including those from Waverly, Elmira, Vestal, and more (nominees based on submitted results).  Ithaca Journal
