CULTURE NEWS

  • FEAST is a one-actor monologue on view at The Kitchen Theatre Company from May 6 to May 24; Brenny Campbell portrays Grendel’s mother (a mythic figure blending ancient grief and modern humor) as she draws the audience into her poignant narrative.  The Ithaca Voice
  • Jolene Rickard, a professor of art history and American Indian studies and a citizen of the Skarù·ręʔ (Tuscarora Nation), received a Lifetime Achievement Award from NAASA for her lasting impact on contemporary Indigenous art and scholarship.  Cornell Chronicle

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Cornell is rebuilding McGraw Hall to blend its historic features with modern updates. Workers have preserved stone walls & cast iron columns while uncovering 1872 signatures, and the renovation is set to continue through 2027 with the hall reopening in 2028 for classrooms and research.  Cornell Chronicle
  • Ithaca College invites the community to its free Commencement Eve Concert at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, May 16 at Glazer Arena; the event features music by student ensembles and is followed by a fireworks display.  14850
  • David Lodge, director of the Cornell Atkinson Center for Sustainability, will retire on May 22 & remain a professor at Cornell for another year.  Cornell Chronicle

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Town of Ithaca Conservation Board will honor F. Robert Wesley with the 2025 Richard B Fischer Award for over 50 years of protecting rare native plants. The tree planting ceremony is set for Tuesday, May 19 at 6 p.m. at the Culver Road Preserve.  Tompkins Weekly
  • On May 8, the Ithaca-based Finger Lakes Land Trust held a ribbon cutting at the new north entrance of Roy H. Park Preserve in Dryden. The project, funded by local grants and donations, improved ADA access — linking the preserve with Hammond Hill State Forest.  607 News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Tompkins County Legislature passed a resolution supporting a state bill that would let high schools include opioid overdose prevention and naloxone training as part of health education; Cornell State Policy Advocacy Clinic students helped draft the proposal to allow students to carry naloxone with parental consent & liability protection.  Ithaca.com
