- ➤ On May 27, a small plane declared an emergency due to engine trouble and landed safely at Ithaca Tompkins International Airport—rescue crews were alerted after the aircraft experienced a bird strike that damaged its propeller and no injuries were reported. 607 News Now

- ➤ The Tompkins County Chamber of Commerce will honor local organizations and leaders on June 18 at the Ithaca Downtown Conference Center with a cocktail reception, seated appetizers with dinner, music by SingTrece and remarks from Chamber President Peggy Coleman. - ➤ The 2025 Ithaca Festival starts today with a parade at 6 p.m.+ a concert at the Bernie Milton Pavilion where local favorite Maddy Walsh and the Blind Spots perform at 7:30. The festival will run for four days with vendors, events, music and food at the Commons, Cayuga Street Circle and Dewitt Park + the city recovers from recent Cornell and Ithaca College graduations while preparing for over 5000 visitors at Cornell Reunion from June 5-8. 607 News Now

- ➤ Roger Moseley, an associate professor of music, has been named the new director of the Milstein Program in Technology and Humanity and will start on July 1 — he replaces Austin Bunn who led the program for five years. The program admits 25 students per class and leaves five spots open for first-year applications. Cornell Chronicle
- ➤ The ILR School exhibit 'A Living Institution: ILR at 80' will open at Cornell Reunion Weekend in the Catherwood Library lobby, showcasing photos and memorabilia from the school's founding in 1945. The exhibit opens Friday, June 6 with a curator chat from 10 a.m. to noon—additional activities include a cookie-themed craft and a library tour on Saturday, June 7. Cornell Chronicle
- ➤ Ithaca College named Aaron Bouyea as its new athletics director—he will start on July 1 replacing retiring Susan Bassett and spent eight years at Monroe Community College leading athletics. 607 News Now
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Cornell researchers analyzed two years of data from TCAT’s pilot electric bus program in Ithaca and found that the buses used up to 48% more energy in cold weather (when temperatures were between four below zero and zero Celsius) because extra energy was needed for battery and cabin heating. The study showed that urban routes led to higher energy use than rural ones and offered strategies such as indoor storage and pre-warming batteries to improve performance. Cornell Chronicle
