- ➤ Several people were treated for smoke inhalation after a three-alarm fire broke out at Asteri Ithaca—the apartment building attached to the Downtown Ithaca Conference Center on East Green Street—on Sunday evening, and officials said the fire is under arson investigation with no arrests made so far. - ➤ Cheyenne Reuben-Thomas, a doctoral student in ecology and evolutionary biology and a member of the Oneida and Seneca Nations, has been named one of five Cobell Graduate Summer Research Fellows for 2025 from over 100 applicants. - ➤ Ithaca is introducing a new form-based zoning plan for Southside that sets four districts with rules on building heights, lot coverage, and parking requirements. A public hearing on the proposal is scheduled for June 11 at 6 p.m.—the plan will then go through Environmental Review before any changes become law. The Ithaca Voice
- ➤ The City of Ithaca is inviting residents to join its volunteer advisory boards on the Community Police Board and the Ethics Advisory Board—this gives local citizens a role in shaping city policies. The Community Police Board meets every fourth Wednesday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at City Hall and all applications are reviewed by the Mayor and Common Council. City of Ithaca

- ➤ Researchers at Cornell used canine DNA to uncover over 15 gene regions linked to gastric cancer in dogs, a finding that may guide future genetic tests for early detection in both dogs and people.
