  • Ithaca Farmers Market at Steamboat Landing was named the top market among ten nationwide by Newsweek’s Readers’ Choice Awards—voters began selecting from 15 candidates in early May, and the market has served local food lovers for over 50 years.  607 News Now

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The former Lansing Market at 3125 North Triphammer Road will soon become a retail outlet for ABC Building Supply as signage and landscaping updates are planned with a project review set for June 23. Meanwhile, former owner S.E.E. Associates will propose a professional office park across the street at 164 Auburn Road featuring a 5,472-square-foot building and 20 parking spaces with a public hearing scheduled for July—future developments will depend on market conditions.  The Ithaca Voice
  • On June 16, the K-House Karaoke Lounge and Suites at 15 Catherwood Road abruptly closed due to unresolved building issues, with the owners saying the closure was heartbreaking — not their choice. The bar operated for 10 years and had offered pop-up dining options during the COVID-19 pandemic.  607 News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Three Cornell astronomy researchers, including doctoral student Elijah Mullens, have been named principal investigators or co-principal investigators for James Webb Space Telescope programs that will start on July 1+ their proposals succeeded in a competitive 10% selection process. The premier telescope, now one million miles from Earth, will begin its fourth annual cycle of observations as Cornell pushes its astronomy research forward.  Cornell Chronicle
  • After months of meetings, the Ithaca City School District and the Ithaca Teachers Association have paused contract talks until they meet again in September + teachers will be paid under the current deal this fall when classrooms reopen, with the contract lasting until June 30.  607 News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Stewart Park Carousel was under routine repairs Tuesday and is operating with limited hours today from 4pm to 7pm to complete scheduled maintenance. City officials arranged the repairs to ensure the ride remains safe and functional.  City of Ithaca

SPORTS NEWS

  • Ithaca’s Noah Hilker won the Class A state championship in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a record-breaking time of 9:15.78 on June 14 - he broke his school record and received a police and firetruck escort after the race. The senior will continue his running career at Binghamton University.  Tompkins Weekly
