CRIME NEWS

  • Ithaca police arrested Steven Swavely on June 17 for second-degree arson and resisting arrest after his actions during an investigation into fires on May 31 and June 1 at an East Green Street apartment building—his resistance led to a bystander releasing his dog, which caused minor injuries.  My Twin Tiers

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Tompkins County has named Jennie Sutcliffe as its new Whole Health Commissioner, with a start date of July 7—her appointment is pending final NYS approval as Public Health Director. She brings over a decade of public health leadership and local experience, and county officials expect her to lead integrated public and mental health services.  Tompkins Weekly
  • County officials will meet in Caroline on Monday, June 23 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall to discuss and gather feedback on the Center of Government project—the final meeting will be held in Ithaca on Tuesday, June 24, and residents can track progress on the county website.  607 News Now
  • Voters in Ithaca will choose candidates for the Tompkins County Legislature and City Council on June 24, with all legislature seats and five council seats up for election. Several races are contested in Wards 1, 3, and 5 while some candidates run unopposed — each promising to address local issues like affordable housing and environmental policies.  Ithaca.com
