ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Saturday morning, Dryden firefighters responded during a training event to a car crash that hit a mobile home and shed in the Little Creek community, and while no one was hurt, an injured pet cat escaped and needs treatment—residents who see the cat should call the fire station at 607-844-8124.  14850

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Tompkins County Quilters Guild will hold its 50 Years of Traditions and Beyond Quilt Show on Sept. 20 and 21 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Tompkins Cortland Community College Field House in Dryden, where 200 quilts, a vendor mall with 13 vendors, a chance to win the ‘Flying to the Stars’ quilt, and a silent auction of 100 small quilts will be displayed. Quilt entries can be submitted online until July 15th (submission fee: $15 for 1–5 items) and Photo Night will offer help with the entry form at its meeting on Tuesday, June 24th from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. (held at Lifelong, 119 West Court Street).  Tompkins Weekly

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Tompkins County is under an extreme heat watch starting Sunday afternoon through Wednesday as a heat dome traps hot air over the eastern United States; in Ithaca, temperatures will reach 98 degrees today—experts warn the heat may feel over 100—and recommend staying hydrated and limiting outdoor work between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.  The Ithaca Voice

  • The FDA announced a recall of Little Remedies Honey Cough Syrup in 4 oz bottles sold from December 12th, 2022 to June 4th due to potential Bacillus cereus contamination that can cause foodborne illness symptoms like nausea, vomiting and cramps; consumers should stop using the product and call 8007548853 for a refund — Medtech is handling the return process.  607 News Now

  • Buffalo Bills offensive tackle Dion Dawkins served as Grand Marshal at yesterday’s IMSA race at Watkins Glen International—giving drivers the command to start—and he said the event allowed him to honor his team while appreciating a unique track in the Finger Lakes region.
