CRIME NEWS

  • On Thursday, 06/26/25 at about 2:00 p.m.—a Tompkins County Sheriff deputy in Ithaca tried to stop a vehicle for traffic violations but the driver, Keenan L. Vick Sr. of Trumansburg, fled into the Seneca Street Parking garage where officers, alerted by a K9 unit, found over two pounds of methamphetamine, 19 grams of heroin, 1.2 ounces of crack cocaine, and 1.4 ounces of psilocybin mushrooms, leading to charges for multiple felonies and misdemeanors.  Tompkins County

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Tompkins County voters cast 3,121 ballots, which represented 5.21% of registered active voters in a Tuesday primary held during extreme heat. Low turnout—linked to several uncontested races and high temperatures—matched figures from 2021.  The Ithaca Voice
  • The Ithaca Fire Department opened a new station in East Hill on June 25th at 2:00 p.m. at the corner of Elmwood Avenue and Dryden Road — firefighters pushed Engine 2 into the garage and raised a flag — while the old station at 307 College Ave sold for $5.5 million.  607 News Now
  • At the meeting, the board reviewed Arnot Realty’s revised Waters Edge project at 683 Third Street after Vecino Group dropped out—reducing the plan from 450 to 200 units with 1,000 square feet of retail space. The board will revisit the Vecino exit and complete further design and environmental reviews in upcoming meetings.  The Ithaca Voice
  • Road work began Thursday, June 26 on the 300-700 blocks of North Aurora Street from E. Tompkins Street to East Buffalo Street and will run for 5 weeks. The project involves road rehabilitation, curb ramp installations and curb replacements and may slow pedestrian and vehicle traffic; extra notices will be given before milling and asphalt paving temporarily close the road until completion on August 1.  City of Ithaca
