- ➤ On Saturday, June 28, Peggy’s Place opened in an aisle of the Ithaca ReUse MegaCenter in Triphammer Mall where dozens gathered to view colorful quilts, buy affordable sewing supplies, and join quiltmaking classes. The community initiative led by Peggy Dunlop (founder of the Community Quiltmaking Center) will offer events every Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. until it closes in August (with plans to reopen in September). EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Active-duty and veteran service members attended Cornell from June 21 to 28 for the Warrior-Scholar Project boot camp that helped them learn about college life and the support available for veterans. Participants in both STEM and humanities sessions saw firsthand Cornell’s academic resources and facility tours—helping them plan to continue their studies. Cornell Chronicle
- ➤ On June 30, dairy industry leaders toured the Cornell University Ruminant Center — a commercial-scale dairy testbed that uses sensors and cameras to study production and environmental practices. - ➤ Solar panels were installed on the Cayuga Heights Wastewater Treatment Plant rooftop after the roof was repaired—about $20,000 was spent on repairs while grant funding covered most of the panel costs. Mayor Linda Woodard said she has pushed for this eco-friendly change for years. 607 News Now
