BUSINESS NEWS

  • Renovus Solar relocated its office to the old GENEX site on Sheffield Road to house its 35 employees and serve as the new home of Standard Battery. The company will update the heating system and install battery technology — projects expected to begin soon — as federal tax credits for clean energy are ending.  Tompkins Weekly

CRIME NEWS

  • Ithaca police arrested a 28 year old woman on July 6 after she threatened two individuals with a knife at a home on East Green Street and injured an officer when she became uncooperative—she now faces charges of criminal contempt, criminal possession of a weapon, assault and multiple misdemeanors.  607 News Now
  • Frank White II, a 30-year-old Ithaca man, was taken into custody after deputies responded to a domestic disturbance at Conifer Circle apartment complex on July 7 at about 7:50 p.m.—the incident involved a .22 caliber rifle struggle—and he now faces charges of attempted murder, robbery, criminal possession of a weapon plus misdemeanors for obstructing governmental administration and endangering the welfare of a child with a court appearance set for July 10 at 8:30 a.m. on $10,000 cash bail.  607 News Now

  • Ithaca was named the best town in America to visit in 2025 by CNN Travel — the review praised its natural beauty, unique attractions, and vibrant cultural scene including highlights like Buttermilk Falls and the Ithaca Commons. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Janet L. Swanson Wildlife Hospital in Ithaca expanded its capacity to treat native wildlife by roughly doubling the maximum number of animals it can hospitalize from about 45 to nearly 90 after completing renovations—improving its facility layout by better separating predators from prey while continuing its teaching programs and research on emerging wildlife diseases.  Tompkins Weekly
  • Harmful algal blooms have appeared on Cayuga Lake after hot, wet weather with the first bloom spotted Saturday on the north side and three more reported Tuesday near Sheldrake Point. The Community Science Institute will test blooms at 14 priority sites—chosen with local health departments—to check toxin levels and guide safety measures.  The Ithaca Voice
  • Cornell researchers have developed the Ruminant Farm Systems modeling tool free for dairy farmers to test changes in feeding, reproduction, and manure management to lower costs and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The tool will allow open-source collaboration as part of the National Dairy FARM Program and will be used by over 200 farms starting October — a step forward in sustainable farming.  Cornell Chronicle

  • The City of Ithaca, Town of Ithaca, and Tompkins County will host a public information session on Tuesday, July 15 at 6:00 p.m. at Ithaca Town Hall to explain the impacts of updated FEMA flood maps and discuss flood insurance options while experts answer residents' questions.  City of Ithaca
