- ➤ Ithaca police arrested 40-year-old Justin Carl on July 10 after he allegedly followed and menaced a 17-year-old girl from Dewitt Park just before 9:30 p.m.; he now faces charges (criminal obstruction of breathing, menacing and stalking). 607 News Now
- ➤ Ithaca Police took a report on July 10th about missing 55-year-old resident Jennifer L. Barker (white, 5 ft 3 in, 115 lbs, with brown hair and brown eyes) who was last seen three weeks ago and is being actively investigated. 14850
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Cornell’s Steel Bridge Team won top honors for lightness at the spring 2024 AISC competition after building a 216-pound bridge that supported 2,500 pounds—support from LASSP Student Machine Shop provided the flexible hours and expert guidance needed for fast fabrication and extra testing. - ➤ Trumansburg Community Nursery School moved from its old space at 69 E. Main St. to its new building at 6 Crescent Way in January and finished licensing work three weeks ago. The play-based nursery, housed in the Village Grove Housing development — a $27 million project — now serves 48 students, provided $10,000 in scholarships to help 11 families, and plans to expand its program after summer camp with 35 families enrolled for fall. - ➤ Ithaca residents changed their recycling habits after county officials released new guidelines on June 18 that stop accepting food and beverage cartons (like milk and juice boxes) and black plastic because they are hard to sort, while cardboard boxes and mixed papers remain accepted. - ➤ Tompkins Community Bank became caretaker of Cornell Business & Technology Park in Lansing after foreclosing on all 17 parcels in the largest foreclosure in Tompkins County history; the lease transfer was registered on July 3—Cornell University still owns the land—while the bank will maintain the park until a buyer is identified.
