COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A free, all-ages punk rock benefit will take place Saturday, July 26 from 12 to 8 p.m. at Hopshire Farm and Brewery in Freeville to raise funds for the Ithaca Free Clinic. Seven local and regional bands will perform while Scooter's BBQ provides food and sponsors help ensure all donations go directly to the clinic.  14850

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office investigated a fatal car crash in Ulysses on Wednesday when a car rolled over on the 3000 block of Krums Corners Road at about 5:09 p.m. and a 23-year-old passenger from Deer Park died after being taken to Cayuga Medical Center—driver Melanie Seneriz was treated at Upstate Medical Center and charges remain pending.  The Ithaca Voice

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Cornell will host the second annual 'Chillin’ on the Quad' event on July 31 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Ag Quad where students, staff and faculty will gather to close out the Summer Wellbeing Adventure with live music, lawn games, a sound healing session and free iced coffee for the first 300 guests — a reminder of the university's commitment to health and connection.  Cornell Chronicle

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ithaca is asking residents to help shape its $10 million application for the state Downtown Revitalization Initiative — city officials will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, July 29 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Tompkins County Public Library to showcase and vote on downtown projects.  Ithaca Journal
  • Tom Knipe will serve as director of the Ithaca-Tompkins County Transportation Council beginning in September — he brings extensive local experience in transportation planning and government administration. He replaces Fernando de Aragón, who retired after more than 27 years of service, and is expected to continue advancing county transportation planning.  Tompkins Weekly
  • The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office and Ithaca Police Department warned residents on July 24th about Facebook groups run by individuals using a fake profile—Malikron Sable—that misleads users by appearing to be linked to law enforcement. Officials advise verifying information through the official Sex Offender Registry and reporting any suspicious activity.  Tompkins County
  • Gov. Kathy Hochul announced nearly $1.7 million in grants from the GIVE initiative was awarded to law enforcement agencies in Broome, Chemung and Tompkins counties to reduce gun violence. In Tompkins County, the Ithaca Police Department will receive $150,485 as part of a package covering equipment, overtime and training costs—supporting ongoing efforts to lower shooting incidents since early 2025.  Ithaca Journal
