  • Habitat for Humanity finished restoring a 1800s-era house at 417 S. Aurora St. on July 9—using 4,632 volunteer hours and 148 workdays—and held a dedication ceremony attended by local residents. New homeowner Carrie Sawyer now benefits from the Community Land Trust program, which keeps the home affordable for her family.  Ithaca.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The New York State Department of Transportation approved a request from the Town of Ulysses to lower speed limits on roads near Taughannock Falls, and the changes—reducing limits to 35 mph on Gorge and Rice Roads and 45 mph on Jacksonville and Taughannock Park Roads—will be implemented once new signs are installed in the coming months.  14850

HEALTH NEWS

  • Emergency responders reached an individual suffering a medical emergency near the Finger Lakes Trail in the Connecticut Hill Wildlife Area using the what3words app (which turns GPS coordinates into a three-word code) at about 4 p.m. Friday, officials said.  14850

  • This week, 14850 Dining visits Lev Kitchen on the Ithaca Commons, a middle eastern restaurant offering wraps made with malawach, salads, snacks and new breakfast items. The eatery is at 222 East State Street and serves fresh, locally sourced meals daily from 9 a.m. + late on Friday and Saturday.  14850

SPORTS NEWS

  • Oak Duke explains that deer hunting has changed from using simple recurve bows and wooden arrows to using compound bows and digital tags. The state will soon allow hunters to use crossbows earlier in archery season + they will use the HuntFishNY app for reporting.  Ithaca Journal
