- ➤ On Saturday, July 26, at 10:35 a.m., Tompkins County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a two-car crash at the intersection of Main Street and Elmira Road in Newfield when a grey Honda CR-V did not yield to a grey Ford Escape, causing serious injuries to the Honda passengers while the Ford driver was checked and declined further treatment—state police, fire, and ambulance crews assisted and the investigation is ongoing. - ➤ Ithaca man Autreyu L. Massaline, 25, was arrested on Saturday on a second-degree murder charge after he stabbed Edward J. Warren, 54, near the 200 block of Elmira Road on Thursday—he is now held in Tompkins County Jail as police continue their homicide investigation. My Twin Tiers

- ➤ Starting this fall, adult learners in Tompkins County aged 25-55 can join community college for free through New York State’s SUNY/CUNY Reconnect program—covering tuition, fees, books and supplies in high-demand fields. Tompkins Cortland Community College is preparing for more students by offering flexible schedules and extra support—including dedicated advising and on-campus child care. 14850

- ➤ Tompkins County faces an $11 million deficit in its 2026 budget after a 2024 audit showed expenses exceeded revenue by about two million dollars, as Legislative Chair Dan Klein told WHCU. - ➤ On Friday at around 4 p.m., Newfield Fire Company rescued a person suffering a medical emergency on Connecticut Hill by using the what3words app—dispatchers provided unique location information that quickly guided responders to the patient, who was then extracted to an awaiting ambulance.
