- ➤ Cornell's Professor Emeritus Robert Gravani was honored with the 2025 Outstanding Partnership Award by the Institute of Food Technologists for his work in building strong links between the university and the food system—his achievements include a 30-year partnership with a state agency and the creation of the National Good Agricultural Practices program. - ➤ Harmful algal blooms have surged in Cayuga Lake since 2014, with a record lake-wide event on July 8–9 that led to beach closures and raised concerns for residents who depend on the lake for drinking water. - ➤ Starting Monday, August 4th, Bothar Construction LLC will begin milling and paving on the block of N. Aurora St from 300 to 700 (from E. Buffalo to E. Tompkins) and will close the road to non-emergency vehicles until Friday, August 8th; local drivers should follow detour routes to avoid delays. City of Ithaca
- ➤ Ithaca police increased enforcement of Downtown Commons rules earlier this month to keep the area safe for residents and visitors. Violators of rules like smoking and riding bikes may face fines+ city officials said the effort would help maintain order+ planters were installed in Home Dairy Alley to slow bikers. The Ithaca Voice

- ➤ Claire de Boer and Bridgette Hobart will start a 38-mile relay swim on August 8 at 8 p.m. near the north end of Cayuga Lake and finish at Allan H. Treman State Marine Park in Ithaca mid-afternoon on August 9 to raise funds for The Sophie Fund for mental health in honor of their nephews who died by suicide—this event will follow official MSF relay rules with hourly swimmer changes and a support boat in the water.
