- ➤ Ithaca police responded to an assault at the Green Street Parking Garage at about 7 a.m. on July 31 when a victim was struck with a hammer and later arrested suspect Jordan M. Berrios—24—on charges of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, second-degree assault and second-degree menacing. Ithaca.com

- ➤ Tompkins County will host many diverse events this August such as an art show at the State of the Art Gallery, live music sunset cruises on Cayuga Lake on August 6 and 13, and a market day at South Hill Cider on August 17 — additional events include a nerd night at The Downstairs, a vinyl showcase at Atlas Bowl, a shark festival at the Museum of the Earth, a guided walk at Cornell Botanic Gardens, and Ithaca’s 17th annual Porchfest on September 21 with signups closing on August 21. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Residents are asked to review design options for the Center of Government after recent public meetings and outreach; they can share their views on building features, outdoor space and sustainability goals via an online survey—each option was developed with department needs in mind—so final plans will reflect community input. - ➤ The City of Ithaca announced that starting Monday, August 4, Bothar Construction LLC will begin road resurfacing on North Aurora Street from East Buffalo Street to East Tompkins Street while the street is closed to through traffic—only emergency responders and local residents will have access during milling and paving. The project is set to tentatively finish Friday, August 8, and detours are recommended as paving is weather-dependent. 14850
- ➤ On July 14, the Ithaca Town Board updated an ordinance and MOU with the City of Ithaca to form a Joint Historic Preservation Program managed by one ILPC for both areas—Town Supervisor Rod Howe said the draft ordinance was reviewed by legal counsel and the MOU is being finalized with a public hearing set for September, and the program will start once passed, ending Dec. 31 with a cost of $30,000 per year. The board also addressed commission representation and other resolutions during the meeting. Ithaca.com
- ➤ Tompkins County Legislator Rich John said on August 31 that some locals were concerned that Flock Safety cameras placed on utility poles might be misused — even used by ICE for raids. He noted that the system helped police locate a lost senior citizen, and Sheriff Derek Osborne said no abuse had been reported with data kept secure. 607 News Now
