EDUCATION NEWS

  • On August 7, TC3 will sign a transfer agreement with Cornell at 1:30 p.m. at the Tompkins Cortland Community College Farm—students in the Sustainable Farming and Food Systems program will get priority for transfers to Cornell's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences as TC3 President Dr. Amy Kremenek and CALS Dean Benjamin Houlton speak at the event.  607 News Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Canadian wildfires have sent smoky air over Ithaca today with air quality alerts issued in Tompkins County, and residents report hazy skies amid warm conditions. Forecasters say temperatures and humidity will gradually rise later in the week — the skies will remain mostly calm despite the smoke.  The Ithaca Voice

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ithaca officials are asking residents to help choose downtown projects for the DRI grant application as the city aims to secure $10 million to revitalize the State Street Corridor—responses must be submitted by 5 p.m. Monday, with the full application due in October. The input will influence plans to boost housing, business growth and public improvements in downtown.  The Ithaca Voice

HEALTH NEWS

  • A recall was issued for Backyard Kids KidKraft Farm to Table Play Kitchens after utility hooks were found to pose a strangulation hazard following the death of a 23-month-old child in Oregon. Backyard Kids has agreed to provide free replacement hooks—customers should remove and stop using the original hooks immediately.  607 News Now
