- ➤ Aly Evans—executive director of Foodnet Meals on Wheels—is honored as a Hometown Hero for her work providing warm meals and support to vulnerable seniors in the community. - ➤ An Ithaca man, Breon J. Brooks, 33, was arrested on drug charges after police stopped his car on Aug. 20 near Seven Eleven when a K9 search found meth, cocaine, heroin + a taser and he was taken to Tompkins County Jail without bail. My Twin Tiers
- ➤ Ithaca police and state agencies stopped driver Breon Brooks on West State Street on August 20 after he committed traffic violations — a K9 search found 4.5 oz each of methamphetamine and cocaine and 15 grams of heroin with a taser, triggering felony charges for controlled substance and weapon possession. 607 News Now

- ➤ The Community Foundation of Tompkins County and the Greater Ithaca Activities Center are set to host a backpack drive to give rural students school supplies valued up to $80. The drive—supported by a $16,000 gift from the Lane Family Fund and local business discounts—will soon add eligible families to its wait list. Ithaca Journal
- ➤ Cornell researchers have developed a single step 3D printing method that produces superconductors with record performance using a copolymer and inorganic nanoparticle ink—this breakthrough could improve superconducting magnets and quantum devices. Cornell Chronicle
- ➤ Cornell officials said that severe fiscal pressures mean the university will restrict hiring and cut budgets later this year plus hold town hall meetings at Ithaca and its state campus to explain the restructuring plans. The moves come as rising expenses and federal funding cuts force the institution to make difficult changes. WSKG

- ➤ Ithaca residents can share ideas on the new Climate Action Plan at a feedback session in the BorgWarner Room of the Tompkins County Public Library this Thursday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.—City Sustainability Director Rebecca Evans and other SCJC members will detail how the plan targets immediate climate and community needs. - ➤ Today at 7:00 a.m. the 300 & 400 block of East Buffalo Street is closed for sewer & water line replacement with work scheduled to continue until October 31. The project will reduce lanes at the Aurora & East Buffalo intersection, close Parker Street, and reroute eastbound drivers via N Tioga St, E Court St, Linn St, University Ave & Stewart Ave while westbound traffic follows Stewart Ave, E Seneca St & N Tioga St. City of Ithaca
- ➤ Local leaders and Senator Webb say NYSEG plans to raise energy bills by up to 40% — the new rates will begin May 1, 2026 if approved by the Public Service Commission. Tompkins Weekly
