COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Tompkins County Departments of Emergency Response and Whole Health partner with Ithaca Tompkins International Airport for an Expo on Saturday, September 13th from 7am to 1pm. Held between East Hill Flying Club and Taughannock Aviation off Brown Road, the event features a Runway 5k, pancake breakfast, aircraft tours, scenic flights, CPR demos, a Citizen Preparedness Corps training at 10:00am with Disaster Preparedness Kits for each family, and a Red Cross blood drive—offering local families a chance to learn about emergency preparedness.  Tompkins County

CULTURE NEWS

  • The third annual Reproductive Rights Film Festival returns to Ithaca with 11 films, seven screenings, and virtual panels starting on September 9 and running through September 20. Events are free and will be held in-person at Cinemapolis on E. Green Street and online—organized by local groups End Abortion Stigma and Grandmothers for Reproductive Rights.  Tompkins Weekly

EDUCATION NEWS

  • McGraw Tower finished its summer renovations with a new lead roof that helps drain water and a 42-inch safety railing at its belfry—clock faces were restored and a historic 1891 roof tile is now on display in Uris. The work also protected the tower’s bells and clockworks so the chimes can play for future years.  Cornell Chronicle

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Aug. 27, the Ulysses Town Board conditionally accepted a 15-acre land donation on Cold Springs Road from the local Pritts family for a planned public park. A zoning appeals review is scheduled for Sept. 17 as the process continues slowly.  607 News Now
  • Residents near 22 Flock cameras are worried about their privacy since the system collects car data and shares it with many law agencies while police say it helps solve crimes. Mayor Cantelmo and the Common Council have asked for a review of the system—hoping to add more safeguards against misuse.  Ithaca.com

  • Host Johnny Lisi sat down with WICB football commentator Devon Jarvis to discuss the upcoming Fall season—he explained plans that will guide team preparations and boost local sports interest.  The Ithacan
  • Football season begins this fall at Eagles Club on September 11—head coaches from Ithaca High, Ithaca College, and Cornell University will discuss past games and upcoming opponents during nine Sports Council luncheons, with a bye on October 2.  14850
