- ➤ The Danby Resilience Fair is set for Saturday, September 6 at the Danby Volunteer Fire Department — the daylong event will offer hands-on workshops in areas like mushroom growing, leather care, and DIY solar setups and will end with live music at Danby Food & Drink. 14850
- ➤ Due to a rainy forecast Saturday— the Ellis Hollow Country Fair has been rescheduled to Sunday, September 7 from noon to 5 p.m. The fair at the Ellis Hollow Community Center on Genung Road will offer hay rides, a dunking booth, music, games, face painting, food and crafts vendors, and a food drive by BSA Pack 55 for Loaves and Fishes of Tompkins County. 14850

- ➤ Downtown Ithaca will host the 43rd Annual Apple Harvest Festival from Sept. 26th to Sept. 28th—featuring over 150 local vendors, live music, apple treats and family fun with a Welcome Students Showcase from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 26th, while local acts like Jimkata will perform throughout the weekend to entertain all ages. - ➤ The Toni Morrison symposium will be held Sept 18—21 and will feature films, panels, workshops and the unveiling of a mural to mark 70 years since Morrison earned her degree at Cornell. - ➤ José Sánchez joined Cornell Tech as an associate professor of design technology at the College of Architecture, Art, and Planning on September 3—he creates video games like Block’hood and Common’hood that teach players about urban systems, ecological balance, and social equity. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ NYSDEC renewed a five-year permit for the Cayuga Salt Mine on August 15—allowing Cargill to store brine underground and requiring daily water monitoring. Environmental group CLEAN said the permit risks a mine collapse beneath Cayuga Lake and will review the decision and consider legal action. Ithaca.com

- ➤ The City of Ithaca announced crews began asphalt repair on September 4 at the West Seneca and North Fulton Streets intersection in the west end—traffic was detoured and the 600 block of West Seneca was closed while Fulton Street was reduced to one lane at times, and repairs will continue until September 10. 14850

- ➤ Florida is planning to end its state vaccine mandates—while New York tightens school requirements by repealing nonmedical exemptions and cracking down on fraudulent records to keep kindergarten vaccination rates near 97%.
