ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Friday night, a 65-year-old Ithaca man was hit near West Buffalo Street and Taughannock Boulevard at 10:49 p.m. by a fleeing vehicle and was airlifted to Cayuga Medical Center for life-threatening injuries—police urge any witnesses to contact them. The Ithaca Voice
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Cornell researchers developed ViewScore.io—software that uses surveys and machine learning to score window views in over 10,000 rooms in New York City to help improve building designs. They found that higher floors get better natural light and privacy and plan to use the tool to guide future real estate and energy efficiency improvements. Cornell Chronicle
- ➤ On Sept. 4, students gathered at eHub in Collegetown for a Cornell event that showcased over 30 resource tables plus four student pitches for eLab admission. Winner Niko Tsavekou ’27 won $1,000 + earned a spot in the accelerator with his special coconut water drink. Cornell Chronicle

- ➤ Advocates for older adults and people with disabilities in nursing facilities urged state lawmakers to raise the personal needs allowance from $50 so residents can cover basic expenses. They said the increase should be included in the upcoming state budget—this change would help adjust for rising living costs. Tompkins County
- ➤ The City of Ithaca reduced lanes on the 100 block of North Aurora Street near 112 North Aurora Street for water-service repairs that began Monday at 7 a.m.—flaggers direct traffic while crews finish work Tuesday afternoon. 14850

- ➤ Tompkins County Environmental Health is seeking a mid-sized dog—either a black lab with a pink collar or a Dalmatian mix with a yellow collar—that bit a person and their dog on August 31 between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. near Birchwood Drive and Hanshaw Road in Ithaca so officials can check its shots during a ten-day observation to rule out rabies. 14850

- ➤ Cornell mourns hockey legend Ken Dryden who died of cancer on Sept. 5 at age 78—he led the Big Red to a 1967 national championship and later won six Stanley Cups with the Montreal Canadiens.
