- ➤ Rootwork Herbals will host two free fall events this weekend at the Jane Minor BIPOC Community Medicine Garden in Brooktondale — a medicine-making campout on Saturday, Oct. 25 from 2 p.m. until morning and a fire cider celebration on Sunday, Oct. 26 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., where all supplies are provided and participants take home their own creation. - ➤ Komonz Grill will host an open mic for sharing immigration stories on National Immigrants Day at the Ithaca Commons on Tuesday, Oct. 28 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Organizers from Story House Ithaca, Catholic Charities Tompkins/Tioga and the local Immigrant Solidarity Group invite community members to attend (food will be available for purchase and a hat will be passed to raise funds for legal aid and bail for immigrants facing deportation). - ➤ The Ithaca Police Department and LETR Special Olympics New York are hosting a 'Law and Order' dine-in and takeout fundraiser today at Texas Roadhouse where officers team with athletes to serve tables as 10% of sales will support the non-profit. - ➤ Local Groton farmers had a hard time with heavy spring rains and a dry summer that delayed planting and hay cutting and dropped the Careys' corn yield from 18 to 20 tons down to 17; the low water levels forced farmers to change feed plans—some may need to buy more corn meal for their cows. - ➤ The City of Ithaca said South Aurora Street remains closed between Prospect Street and the Commons after a water main broke on October 18. Crews finished water main repairs by October 21 and started roadway restoration that is expected to take 5 to 6 weeks with full reopening anticipated by December 1 — drivers must follow posted detours. - ➤ Local group Securing Lansing’s Future is hosting meet the candidates events for write-in candidates Joe Lovejoy and John Duthie for the Lansing Town Board from Oct 23 — Nov 15. The events will be held at venues such as an airport, fire station, park, and community center and will include a pancake breakfast, Chicken BBQ, and a trunk and treat with pre-registration required. - ➤ Dr. Auguste Duplan has spent 20 years supporting teen mental health at Cayuga Medical Center where he leads the adolescent psychiatry unit and treats patients in crisis.
