- ➤ VFW Post 961 and VVA Chapter 377 will host a Veterans Day Ceremony at Dewitt Park at 11 a.m. on Veterans Day, while Ithaca College holds its annual celebration today at noon in Ford Hall with online viewing—other local groups plan dinners, open houses and a chimes concert later in the week. 14850
- ➤ The Ithaca Police Department and the Community Justice Center will host a Friendsgiving potluck next week to bring community members and law enforcement together. The event will take place on November 13 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church on N. Albany St. —registration is required— and is open to all. WENY
- ➤ Monks on the Commons at the Ithaca Marriott Downtown on the Commons donated 50% of dinner proceeds on November 5 to Foodnet Meals on Wheels to support meal deliveries and community dining for older residents + Foodnet's executive director Aly Evans served as a guest bartender during the event. 14850

- ➤ Tompkins County launched an age-friendly business certification program to help local businesses welcome patrons of all ages—efforts that include improved designs at Cayuga Health’s outpatient clinics at Ithaca Mall. Assisted by Cornell faculty and students, the program provides checklists and public recognition so businesses can make affordable, minor changes—ensuring a more accessible experience for everyone. - ➤ Kurt Foreman was named the new president of Ithaca Area Economic Development after a nationwide search — he brings over 30 years of experience from several states and will work to support local business growth. Ithaca Journal
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ After months of talks, the Ithaca City School District and Ithaca Teachers Association reached a tentative 3-year deal that gives a 7% salary increase for 2025-26 and 2026-27 and a 6% raise for 2027-28—teachers will vote on the contract and the board will vote after ratification. The groups will finalize the contract language by late November. 607 News Now

- ➤ On Wednesday, New York State Senator Lea Webb and Tompkins County officials held a press conference to update the community on SNAP cuts and announced that nearly 7,200 county residents are struggling as benefits remain on hold. They said TCAT is now offering free rides for EBT cardholders to food banks and support services until SNAP benefits resume — callers may also dial 2-1-1 for additional help. WENY

- ➤ Jennie Joseph, the Cornell Human Ecology Flemmie Kittrell Visiting Scholar and founder of Commonsense Childbirth, spoke in a public lecture on materno toxic zones to 65 first year public health students this morning and met one-on-one with many of them—she stressed the need for respectful, equitable care for mothers while honoring Flemmie Pansy Kittrell’s legacy.
