- ➤ A food resource fair will help connect Ithaca residents without SNAP benefits to local food services. The event (Nov. 13th) (5 p.m. to 7 p.m.) will be held at the Tompkins County Public Library. WENY
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ John Tomasi, the inaugural president of Heterodox Academy, will speak on building cultures of open inquiry on Nov. 18 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in Lewis Auditorium (G76 Goldwin Smith) as part of events by the Provost’s Committee on the Future of the American University. Cornell Chronicle
- ➤ A project at Cornell brings teachers, staff, and graduate students together to study history, language, and culture with digital tools. The Digital Humanities Initiative — started in 2024 as part of the Provost’s CIVIC Initiative — is set to build stronger research ties over the coming years. Cornell Chronicle
- ➤ Cornell reached an agreement with the federal government to restore its research funding interrupted since April, a move that will allow its research to continue while settling long-standing issues; the deal includes a $60 million settlement over three years—$30 million for agricultural research and $30 million to resolve claims while protecting the university’s autonomy in its policies, hiring, and curriculum. 14850
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The federal shutdown has halted SNAP, HEAP and other crucial assistance programs for thousands of Tompkins County residents while hundreds of federal workers, including 16 TSA staff at Ithaca, continue working without pay. Airlines have reduced flights from JFK and Dulles — although Ithaca flights remain scheduled — as local officials prepare additional support for those in need. 14850
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Patients diagnosed with breast cancer at Arnot Health or Cayuga Health can now use dedicated navigators who work with doctors to explain tests, guide treatment plans and offer emotional support. This service helps patients schedule workups and connect to community resources—making the treatment journey clearer. The Ithaca Voice
- ➤ The Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine announced its new CVM Alumni Veterinarian Locator—a free tool that will let pet owners find Cornell-trained veterinarians near them. The service will also offer a searchable database for alumni who want to mentor students and provide externship opportunities. Cornell Chronicle

- ➤ Section 4 football semifinals ended Friday as Corning beat Ithaca by 52 to 20 in Class AA to earn a championship rematch with Elmira on Nov. 14 and Horseheads defeated Vestal by 21 to 7 while Union-Endicott won over Binghamton 56 to 6 for the Class A final. Oneonta upset Windsor by 20 to 14 in Class C and Waverly beat Norwich 28 to 7 in Class B — championship games in these classes are scheduled for Nov. 15. Ithaca Journal
